Todos Las Dias Toro

Posted by Jack | in Dunbarton Tobacco and Trust | on 06 Sep 2018 | at 5:19 AM | 114 views

During my trip to San Diego in August, I started smoking Steve Saka's Dunbarton Tobacco and Trust cigars and haven't looked back since.  The subject of today's review is the Todos Las Dias - which roughly translates to " All the Days" .  So, is this a cigar for any day?  A cigar to celebrate all the days you spend working like a dog?  A cigar to celebrate all of the days you've smoked cigars?  I don't rightly know off-hand but I aim to find out.  Let's get smoking, shall we? Construction: The oily wrapper is leathery with no seams or veins to speak of.  Heavy in the hand and perfectly put together.  The band is a nice gothic style that feels very manly -... Tatuaje La Vérité 2013

Posted by Jack | in Tatuaje | on 23 Aug 2018 | at 5:34 AM | 169 views

So, last week I was in my second hometown of San Diego, CA.  After poking around at a few cigars shops, I found one of the holy grail cigars....Pete Johnson's Tatuaje La Vé rité 2013.  I know they are out there, but like the pictures of Nessie, their whereabouts always seem blurred and vague.  Imagine my shock when I realized what I was seeing as I stood in the humidor at Racine & Laramie in Old Town.  As you may know - (or do you?) - Pete Johnson is a wine lover.  His idea for the La Vé rité series of cigars is to produce one cigar using tobacco from one farm and one crop.  A very wine-like approach.  That being said, let's get smoking... Davidoff Winston Churchill The Late Hour Robusto

Posted by Jack | in Davidoff | on 04 May 2018 | at 10:23 AM | 500 views

I am not going to waste tons of time with a lengthy intro.  Suffice to say, this is a cigar so good it had to be reviewed.  Every now and then someone creates a cigar for the ages....one we will be talking about 30 or 100 years from now....this is one of them.  Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you The Late Hour.... Construction: You can see your reflection in this cigar.  The wrapper leaf is silky with oils just glistening in the light.  It's one of those cigars that will make your mouth water just looking at it.  Pre-light Aroma and Draw: Out of the cellophane the Late Hour gives off notes of nice sweet cocoa and espresso.  I get some raisin and damp earth... Tatuaje Monster Series No. 10 The Michael

Posted by Jack | in Tatuaje | on 26 Oct 2017 | at 1:37 PM | 892 views

Michael Myers.  Butcher knife-wielding murder machine out of John Carpenter's terrifying imagination, is the subject of this year's Monster Series cigar from Pete Johnson and Tatuaje.  I was lucky enough to get a box of these last week and I have already plowed through a couple of them so I figured I better review one before I destroy the whole box.  Let me start off by saying that Halloween, the 78 film, is one of my favorite horror flicks....A masterpiece....So I was super excited to see if Pete created a cigar worthy of such a great film and character.  Let's get to it, shall we? Construction: This is a very pretty cigar.  Beefy and very well constructed, Michael has a nice milk chocolate colored Ecuadorian... Continue reading »»

Corto X46 by Warped Cigars

Posted by Jack | in Warped Cigars | on 28 Sep 2017 | at 5:14 AM | 687 views

I have had my eye on the subject of this review for a while now.  Sadly, I couldn't find them in my area until recently.  Needless to say, I was excited to find it and even more excited to smoke it.  Remember when you were a kid and there was a specific toy you were looking for?  Remember that feeling when you finally found it at the store?  Well, that was how I felt.  The Corto by Warped Cigars is, by all accounts, a powerful little cigar.  Each year they change the size.  Last year was a 4.5x50 this year a 4.5x46.  Oddly enough, I was attracted to this cigar at first glance because of the Italian look of the band and the use of... Tatuaje Négociant Monopole No. 2

Posted by Jack | in Tatuaje | on 31 Aug 2017 | at 5:25 AM | 789 views

Every year, I find at least three cigars that I just refuse to stop smoking.  This year, I have already done great damage to the existence of Caldwell's Blind Man's Bluff Connecticut, Blackworks Studio's Killer Bee, and the subject of this review, the Tatuaje Né gociant Monopole.  This was my most sought after cigar since Pete first teased us with it on Instagram.  Was it worth the wait?  Let's find out, shall we? Construction: As with every single cigar Pete puts out, the Monopole is gorgeous.  No seam or vein issues.  The Monopole is draped in a creamy Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper that has a nice suede feel to it. Pre-light Aroma and Draw: Unlit, the Monopole gives off a powerful set of notes.  Sweet tobacco,... Continue reading »»

Diesel Grind Robusto

Posted by Jack | in Diesel | on 17 Aug 2017 | at 5:54 AM | 764 views

So, yeah...it's been a while since I posted a review.  I know, I know....you can only re-read my old reviews so many times before they get boring.  I am going to try to get back into the swing of things by reviewing the brick & mortar offering from the undisputed king of catalog cigars.  Diesel.  Or, more specifically, the Diesel Grind.  Let's get smoking, here.... Construction: A nice oily wrapper leaf covers this cigar. No real veins or seams to speak of.  Actually, a very nice looking cigar. Pre-light Aroma and Draw: Out of the cellophane the Grind offers up some barnyard, leather, and damp earth notes.  The draw is perfect.  Not too open and certainly not closed at all.  Just the right amount of... MoyaRuiz Chinese Fingertrap

Posted by Jack | in MoyaRuiz | on 12 Nov 2015 | at 10:08 AM | 1962 views

I remember my first trial with a Chinese Fingertrap.  My Mom and I went to a shop where she would buy cake decorating stuff and they had a big section of novelty toys - yo-yo's, plastic dinosaurs, pencil toppers, that kind of stuff.  Well one of the items was this bamboo weave tube that I had never seen before and my Mom told me to put my fingers in each end....and then my eyes went wide when I realized I was stuck fast!  I think I was about 8.  Anyway, after she showed me the trick, I had to have one - to trick my friend, you know....So the cigar today is the MoyaRuiz Chinese Fingertrap. No, you can't jam your stubby fingers in the... Continue reading »»
