Funny story.  On the way to my Fianceé 's family Christmas party, she called me.  " I am out of cigarettes," she said.  " Will you pick some up for me?" .  Of course I replied " yes" .  At the time of her call, I was about 10 minutes from The Wharf which is on the way to her parent's house.  So, I thought " If they are open, I will just stop there and pick up her cigarettes and maybe a couple of cigars for her brother-in-law" .  As luck would have it, they were open - and on Christmas Eve, no less!  I spun the wheel of my Veloster to the left and entered the parking lot. As my headlights fell upon her car parked in front of the shop, I thought, " she must have stopped for cigarettes instead."   I walked in and spotted she and our Son standing by the counter.  I said " Hey, what are you guys doing here?" ....her reply was to spin around in a panic and yell " get out!" .  I then spent about ten minutes outside waiting for her transaction to be complete - I honestly didn't see what she was buying.  When they walked out they jumped in the car and sped off with a smile and a shouted " see you at Mom's" .  I walk into the Wharf afterwards and the owner asked, " do you smoke Hint of Mint cigarettes?" .  " No" , I replied.  " Then there's nothing for you in that bag she was holding" .  Well played, sir.  Well played.  The next morning I opened a small brown bag sporting a bow containing two Camacho Liberty 2012 cigars.  Well played, indeed.
Now, I haven't had a Camacho Liberty since the 2007 edition - which was very good.  So, how was this new edition?  Let's see....
Construction: As you can imagine, it's a beauty.  Very well put together.  The 11/18 size is beautiful.  Such an underused size, I wish more companies would offer this vitola.  Packed in a nice little well constructed cedar coffin and wrapped in tissue paper, the presentation is exquisite.
Pre-light Aroma and Draw: Seeing as it's packed in a cedar box, it should be no surprise that the unlit aroma is strong cedar.  Perfect draw.
Light and Burn: The Liberty lit easily with a couple of matches.  The burn started out slightly wonky but self corrected to a nice even line.  Didn't have to touch it up at all.  As the cigar burned down it created a nice medium gray ash that was very clingy.
Tasting: While not overly complex, the Liberty is a terrific smoke.  Flavors are dominated by an amazing spicy cedar core.  At the start she's spicy and peppery with notes of coffee and cream.  About an inch in, I came across a new profile....An almost cayenne pepper heat on the palette.  My mouth was actually tingling.  Into the final third it really softens and is much smoother.  It's a highly consistent cigar and as I said before, not overly complex but it is very nicely balanced.
Value: They were presents for me, so I can't complain.  The usual going rate is around $18, which is a terrific price for a memorable cigar.
Final Thoughts: I went through a phase where I smoked Camacho cigars more than anything. Over the past few years I occasionally sample their new items but not as regularly as I had in the past.  This Liberty shows that they still have the touch.  It's a very well done cigar and each edition is anticipated by cigar smokers everywhere....And with good reason.  I have one more in my humidor and I will probably sit on it for a long while.  Overall, I am very satisfied with the 2012 Liberty.  I can highly recommend this cigar....if you can find it, that is.
